Can't...stop...posting.

1. How has your week been so far?   Pretty much neutral so far, thank you.
2. Would you rather be stuck with  -10 degree weather and snow the rest of your life or sun and 95 degrees? Hot weather and sunshine, please.  I hate being cold.
3. What’s on your nails?  Revlon Amber Ablaze with nameless-but-amazing topcoat.
4. How far do you commute to get to work/school? I live on campus, soooo...yeah.
5. What kind of bag do you carry on a daily basis (purse, large tote, backpack, etc.)? Backpack ftw, bb.
6. Are you crafty? What kinds of crafts do you do? I love making stuff.  I can knit, crochet, sew, cross-stitch, paint, draw, sculpt, fold origami shtuffs, sing, play flute (FFFFT), bake and cook pretty much anything as long as I have a general recipe to work with.
7. What is the best thing you can cook? I make a killer wrapped chicken---stuff mozzarella inside a chicken breast, then wrap it in bacon and coat it in parmesan/herb shit and bake it until it's amazing.  I can do caramel apple pie, too, and some pretty mean peanut butter cookies and fudge brownies and cheesecake.
8. Are you good at math? Yeah, kind of.  As an engineer, it's pretty much part of my career to know a little math.  I'm only up to differential equations, but I might try some matrix theory next semester.  We'll see.
9. Do you take risks when it comes to your haircut or color? Beh, not really.  I'm actually trying to grow my hair out right now; I'd like to hit the bottom of my ribcage this year, which should only be about 6.5 inches.
10. Ever heard of Sugarpill cosmetics?
Yeah, but I don't know if I'll order any.  I'm pretty happy with the stuff I have now, and I don't have any ties to the owner.

WHAT HAVE I BECOME

In the past month I've made two orders with Aromaleigh, one for Fyrinnae, one Silk Naturals, one Eden Allure, two Etsy jewelry orders, one TSS (which I kind of regret, it's taking forever and I don't know if it'll be worth my money), one at Evil Shades and a big one from Supply Source.  So far I've received everything except for Evil Shades, which I just ordered today, and TSS, which I paid for four weeks ago, before all of my other orders.  It's kind of ridiculous that it's taken this long for the company to do anything.  i never received any sort of order confirmation or invoice from the site, so I'm a little iffy on the whole thing right now.  Eh...

Swatchyswatchswatch

I like huge swatch photos because you can actually get an idea of the texture and finish of the products.  If the hugeitude of these images is bothersome or too much for your compy to handle just fling a comment my way, mkay?

The first batch is from Aromaleigh; this is my second order, and I am way stoked that I caved in.  I bought these last week immediately after Miss K announced that the Rocks shadows would be reformulated and, as such, the old formula was on sale.  I bought four full-sized pots (Dominion, Moonagedaydream, Endlesssea and Poisonivy) and received four samples with them.  The shadows are swatched over theallnaturalface's eye primer (top), bare skin (thin line in the middle) and TFSI (bottom).

From left to right:

Prettyinpink, Dirtydeeds, Radioactive, Moonagedaydream, Dominion, Poisonivy, Endlesssea, Pinafore color creme (my extra sample--friggin love this one)

everybody in the pool!

this one has flash :D

Radioactive looks more blue on camera than in real life, but it's still a bit cooler than the swatch on the Aromaleigh page.

These are the Fyrinnae shadows I got with my lip lustres, also swatched over theallnaturalface primer and TFSI.

Bastet, Atomic Afterglow and Beholder WITH FLASHSHSH

Prettyinpink:  a slightly cool, matte, incredibly bright pink.  Think of a pink highlighter, then double that feeling.

Dirtydeeds:  somewhat plummy mauve base with a lovely blue-green shimmer.

Radioactive:  a cold matte green, the color of bluegrass.

Moonagedaydream:  blue-green with a hint of golden-green shimmer.

Dominion:  a true blue base with pale gold shimmer and sparkles throughout.

Poisonivy:  bright matte green, about the same color as a green colored pencil.

Endlesssea:  a nearly-matte teal; has a hint of bluey-greeny sparkle.

Pinafore:  for the leeps; a sheer but bright reddish-pink with a bit of pink sparkle.  Smells kind of like candy.

Bite Me:  a true red with a hint of red shimmer; blend incredibly well.

Bastet:  a matte black base with LOTS of gold/green/olive sparkle and glitter.  This one is best foiled or used with a sticky base.

Platinum:  a gorgeous dirty silver color with a gold shimmer.  I frigging love this one everywhere.  I kind of want to take a bath in this.

Atomic Afterglow:  a silky-looking grey, has some subtle shimmer throughout.

Beholder:  a medium greyish-taupe with multi-colored shimmer/sparkle.

HURBLEH

1. How has your week been so far? Eh, it's a week.  Good things include receiving my Fyrinnae order (swatches coming up) and getting acquainted with my shinyshiny new laptop, bad things would be my upcoming Transport exam and Thermo assignment.  Blehhh.

2. Have you ever gone through an entire bottle of nail polish and bought a second of the same color? lolwut?  I haven't even half-finished a bottle before.

3. What’s on your nails? Supply source Silver Foil.  It keeps chipping and scratching.  Bleh.

4. What are you reading right now? Nothing at the moment; I tend to avoid recreational reading when classes are in session, mostly because I'd avoid homework and studying by reading obsessively.  :(

5. Do you do pedicures in the winter? ...never had a pedicure.  I don't like people touching my feet.

6. Where do you paint your nails? At my comp desk on the pull out tray.

7. What’s the last thing you bought? A couple of pretty hair things from whichgoose on Etsy.

8. Do you love it when we “spring forward” and it’s light out until 8:00-9:00 pm? HOOOO YESSSSSS  I love spring!

9. What is your favorite print or pattern (can be for clothing, furniture, or whatever)? Urrr, balloons or old 80's cartoon characters.  By the power of GREYSKULL!

10. What are your two fav color combinations? Turquoise + red and jade green + cotton candy peach + dove grey.

Do eet.

As Supreme Dictator

my first act will be to review a mascara that I purchased earlier this week.

The product in question is Maybelline XXL Pro Curl , a double-ended tube filled with a curling primer and a black mascara.  The claims on the back of the package are as follows:

2 steps to fabulous curled lashes.   Step 1:Curls to a 45 degree angle.   Step 2: Provides 12-hour hold.

Step 1: Sweep XX-treme Curl basecoat through lashes to lengthen and curl.   Step 2: Follow with XX-treme Hold topcoat to lock on super-intense color and 12-hour wear.

Removes easily with soap and water or Maybelline New York Expert Eyes 100% Oil-Free Eye Makeup Remover.

The first thing that bothered me about this mascara was the brush.  Both brushes were huge and curvy, and the primer brush hardly picked up any product.  Because of this, I ended up stabbing my eyes just trying to get them coated with the little bit of product stuck to the center of the brush.  Not cool, Maybelline.

look at those monsters

First, my naked eyes:

I don't actually have two sets of eyes.

After applying the primer and letting it dry, I checked out the initial results.  Although I did notice some curlitude going on with my eye-fringe, I highly doubt that it was a 45 degree angle.  Maybe 30-35 degrees.  I did, however, notice a little bit of lengthening, which was kind of nice. At this point, I was hoping the attached mascara would fully coat my now curly-but-faded lashes and reveal them to be a glorious swooping curtain of prettiness.  Instead, I went from this primer coated weirdness:

Snow lashes!

...to this:

Can you see the confusion in my face?

What is this crap?  My eyelashes look sort of short because the tips are invisible. The mascara couldn't even cover them because Godzilla-brush kept running into my cornea.  I spent about four minutes trying to darken them, as well as trying to comb out the stupid clumps that were frigging everywhere.  I think that the curved brush couldn't pick up the product evenly, what with the massive kink, and it ended up with globs of mascara on some parts and almost none on others.  And what's up with the whole "10 eyelashes per side" thing?  They were sticking to each other worse than bare, sweaty skin and leather couch cushions.  To make matters more sucktacular, it smudged pretty badly after only four hours of wear at work, where I was mostly sitting at a desk.  FFFFFFFFF.

After this round of disappointment, I thought I'd at least give the primer another chance; it looked so promising that I wanted to believe it didn't completely suck balls.  The mascara that I used for my second application was Maybelline Colossal Volum' Express Waterproof, and it looked like-a-so:

what the what?

Way better results, in my opinion.  The mascara isn't at clumpy, it actually covered the tips of my eyelashes, I didn't suffer horrendous pain and humiliation, AND it offered a little separation for my poor lashes.

Tl;dr summary:

  • The brushes are huge, not for people with small eyes/lashes.

  • Mascara formula sucks.

  • Primer is okay.

I don't think I would recommend this mascara to anyone.  Although the primer is a decent formula, you get a very small amount of product for around $8US.  Don't waste your money.
